Cut to Randy’s car.
Randy pulls the car to a sudden halt. It spins halfway around. He leaps out of the car and runs to the trunk in the back, flinging it open, and pulling out a large gas canister. Then he runs back to the driver’s seat, turns the car so that it faces the horde of swarming cacti, and guns it.
The car speeds down the road, ramming directly into the cacti that have massed upon it, sending them broken and flying.
Randy comes to the spot where Jesse’s car is stuck, hears the horn, now sounding short and sporadic blasts, as Jesse hits it with his arms in his battle with the cactus hands.
Taking advantage of an opening in the mass of swarming cacti, Randy leaps out of his car with gas can in hand, and begins splashing the gasoline about liberally. He shouts loudly so Jesse and the others can hear him.
Randy: “Hold on! Hold on Jesse! I’m coming!”
In the meantime, Dan leaps out of the back seat and makes his way next to Randy.
“Do you have a match?” Randy demands.
The cacti begin to surround the two boys.
“Right here!” Dan lights the match, and tosses it on the ground.
Flames shoot up, instantly consuming several of the cactus-things, and causing a gap in the crowd of them. The flames run along the path of the gasoline, straight to Jesse’s car, burning all the cactus creatures along the way.
Randy and Dan shout, “Jesse! Amy! Everybody! Get out!”
Cut to interior of Jesse’s car. All four kids have been slashed up pretty badly, but they are all still alive. Outside the car is a chaos of writhing cactus creatures, burning cactus creatures, and flames. Barely audible above all the noise, we can hear Randy and Dan shouting.
Jesse, face and arms drenched with blood, screams to the others in the car, “Get out! Get out now!”
All four kids stumble out of the car, through the flames and past the burning cactus creatures, and find their way, blindly, to where Randy and Dan are standing.
Just in time. Even as they are turning to pile into Randy’s car, Jesse’s car explodes. The teenagers are knocked off their feet. Gas, flames, shattered glass and cactus parts shower down on them.
With their hair scorched and clothes smoldering, they scramble frantically through the gathering crowds of cactus creatures, making their way to Randy’s car, piling in.
Doors slam, and Randy starts his car, facing a solid wall of cactus things. Randy guns the car and plows through them.
Breaking free of the cactus things at last, Randy speeds down the darkened desert road at nearly a hundred miles an hour.
Interior shot of the teenagers. Girls are snuffling and sobbing, Jesse groaning in pain while Amy daubs his face and arms with the sleeve of her blouse, which she has torn off for that purpose.
They drive the long way around, back to the desert town, arriving there very late at night.
