The battle was fast and furious, terrible and bloody.  Tiny Theeroi leaped out of the tunnel walls and fell upon the demons in great swarms, like angry ants climbing over the body of a hapless grasshopper.  Rending and tearing and cutting and slashing, the ravenous Theeroi (who ate everything they could, including each other) devoured the helpless demons.

…the battle raged all around him.

Tweek shivered with quivering fear as the battle raged all around him.  But he stayed hidden in his hiding place, and did not once look up or make a sound, and somehow, through all the noise and confusion and murdering and dying, everybody overlooked the fat little demon.

The Theeroi moved on in pursuit of the demons as they fled away, and soon after, Tweek found himself alone in the dark tunnel again.  Not even the bodies of his fellow demon were left there to keep the unhappy demon company – they’d all been eaten, every one!

Now Tweek was miserable with terror, and so shaken by everything that had happened, that he could not even bring himself to move.  And he could have stayed right where he was, quite paralyzed with fright, until he starved to death.  But things have a way of happening to make us do things, even when we don’t want to, and this is what happened to Tweek.

As he huddled, sobbing silently alone, in his tiny hidey-hole in the tunnel, he heard the sound of something coming near.  The demon strove to dig himself even deeper into the dirt where he hid, dreading to make a sound.
